Terms of Service

Effective date: 8 April 2026 · Last updated: 8 April 2026

Note: KOM Hunter is currently in pre-launch. These terms reflect our committed practices and will be finalized before public launch. Questions in the interim should go to matt@autoalphaadvisory.co.za.

1. Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using KOM Hunter (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of the service

KOM Hunter is a Strava companion application that helps cyclists discover Strava segments worth hunting. The Service offers five discovery modes — Around Me, Your Speed, Hidden Gems, Legendary, and On This Route — along with hunt tracking and gamified captures. The Service is operated by Matt Owen, sole proprietor, based in Cape Town, South Africa.

3. Account requirements

To use the Service, you must have an active Strava account. By connecting your Strava account via OAuth, you authorize KOM Hunter to access the data you grant permission for (read activity history, read segments and routes, star segments on your behalf). You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service — this is inherited from Strava's own age requirement.

4. Acceptable use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:

5. Strava integration

KOM Hunter uses the official Strava API and complies with the Strava API Agreement and Brand Guidelines. KOM Hunter is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Strava, Inc. Your use of Strava's data is also governed by Strava's own Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

You can disconnect KOM Hunter from your Strava account at any time via the Settings screen in the app, or directly via your Strava account settings. Disconnection revokes the OAuth token and deletes your KOM Hunter data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

6. Personalization and predictions — important disclaimer

KOM Hunter's personalized segment predictions ("achievability scores", "predicted times", "gap estimates") are estimates based on classical statistical methods applied to your own historical activity data. They are not guarantees. Actual performance on any segment depends on many factors we do not and cannot know — wind, traffic, road conditions, your fitness on the day, equipment, and many others.

KOM Hunter's predictions are not medical advice, not training advice, and not a substitute for professional coaching or medical supervision. You are solely responsible for your own safety on the road. Do not take risks to beat a KOM. Segment hunting should be a fun, low-stakes activity, not a reason to compromise your safety or the safety of others.

7. Intellectual property

KOM Hunter's application code, design, branding, algorithm, and documentation are the intellectual property of Matt Owen. Your Strava data, your hunts, and your trophies belong to you.

8. Subscription and pricing

KOM Hunter is free during public beta. Premium features will be introduced after beta, at which point updated terms covering billing, renewal, cancellation, and refunds will be published. No payment information is collected during beta.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure. We do not warrant the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of any personalized predictions, segment data, or other information provided by the Service.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event shall KOM Hunter or its operator be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total aggregate liability shall not exceed the amount you have paid to KOM Hunter in the twelve months preceding the claim (which, during the free beta period, is zero).

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death, personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. You may terminate your use of the Service at any time by disconnecting Strava and/or deleting your data via the Settings screen.

12. Governing law and dispute resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any dispute arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved in the competent courts of the Western Cape, South Africa.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified via the app and via the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
